This bit field is supposed to contain the version of the capability mask. However in practice it's always the same. The value doesn't matter since it's not going to be changed.
Audio device capabilities like PCM_CAP_REVISION can be checked using the SNDCTL_AUDIOINFO or SNDCTL_DSP_GETCAPS ioctl calls.
