PCM_CAP_MODEM audio device capability

The device is a modem device (reserved)

Description

This capability is reserved for future use and it should be avoided in applications.

This capability means that the audio device is not an ordinary sound device. Instead it's a special purpose audio device that is connected to the telephone network. The exact meaning of this capability is to be determined in the future OSS versions. For this reason using it may be dangerous.

certain applications like DVD players and hard disk recorders can use this capability to skip telephony devices during automatic device searches.

Audio device capabilities like PCM_CAP_MODEM can be checked using the SNDCTL_AUDIOINFO or SNDCTL_DSP_GETCAPS ioctl calls.
